A collection of creative work by my customers

"I just love your African fabrics, but what can I do with them?"

My answer, as you might expect, is pretty drastic, "Cut them it up and be creative!"

Well, that's just what many of my customers do and I'm constantly amazed at the innovative pieces they create. From quilts to clothing to bags - they are using my African fabrics to inspire their creations. Wonderful!

So, if you're proud of a textile creation that you've made using my fabrics, please email me a high quality digital image. Time permitting, I'll try to get it up on this page for everyone to admire.

Thanks

Isla's Cot Quilt

My friend Connie Gilham has created a colourful and fun cot quilt featuring hand-dyed batiks from Ghana and The Gambia. And before you all ask me the wonderful little animal silhouette panels - sorry, but they were so popular that they're all gone!

Dorita Smith

Ethel

Dorita likes to use colourful African wax prints in traditional patchwork designs. While logic might say, "Those fabrics won't work." Dorita's quilts say, "Oh yes they do!"

We're very grateful to Dorita for letting us feature two of her quilts - including Ethel in our book Afrian Wax Print: A Textile Journey.

Iain Cloke

African Green

Iain's large quilt looks simple, but hasn't he made superb use of his feature fabric - a beautiful Langa Lapu sunprint from South Africa.

Catrien Moortgat

African Rain

Catrien's lovely quilt really shows off the hand-dyed kola nut and Indigo fabrics I get from my friend Musa Jaiteh in The Gambia.

Lesley Clements

Untitled

Wow! Lesley's very large quilt is a great advertisement for hand-dyed and hand-printed Amafu fabrics from South Africa.

Dilys Wright

Gambian Garden

My friend Dilys lived in The Gambia for many years and introduced me to many of the local dyers there who produce such wonderful hand-dyed batiks.

This quiilt was featured in my exhibition Under African Skies at the Quilt Museum in York.

All Pegged Out Challenge

Hosted by Quilts In The Garden 2010

Celebrating 'The African Fabric Shop at 10', we put together this little challenge for some quilting friends who have supported us over the years. Margaret McQuillen who organises Quilts In The Garden graciously hosted the challenge, along with a small exhibition of quilts made by friends and customers featuring African fabrics.
